ABOUT EDMUND & WHEELER
Hi, my name is George Foss.
Welcome to the website, which is brand new. If you were ever a
visitor or user of the old site, or just a brand new viewer of this
one, I would really appreciate your comments on this new version.

My
background and training is in physics and electrical engineering; I
have a bachelor's degree in the former from Brown and a master's
degree in the latter from Northeastern. I entered industry in
1962, right after college, and worked for Boston-based companies for
the next nine years.
In late 1969, a close friend was
stricken with lung cancer, and he passed away in less than six
months. The event had a most profound effect upon me, and I
began to question where I was headed in life. The thoughts of
"That could have been me" rang in my head, so in 1971, I
made the first of three career changes where I left the Boston area
with my wife and moved to Northern New Hampshire to go into real
estate with my parents. Little did I suspect that when I
joined their firm, they left, to cruise on a trawler for the next
nine years, but I digress. In any event, there I was, in a not
unfamiliar area, but in a brand new line of work.
Real estate in a rural area has a
unique set of challenges, including a requirement of the agent to be
a generalist in many areas. Listings of businesses, farms, and
vacant land, along with primary and secondary residences, and
commercial properties all comprise an agency's book of business.
However, because of the relative small population in the area, as
years passed, the same properties would come up for sale over and
over again. This led to a certain measure of frustration, and
boredom for someone who had been technically challenged in his
earlier career. So, in order to make transactions interesting,
I began to also make them fun by adding tax twists,
owner and/or creative financing, and to generally increase the level
of complexity of pending deals. In the mid-1970's, I learned
about Section 1031 Exchanges, and from that time forward, have
basically never looked back.
Form 1981 until about 1995, our
exchanges were completed for clients as an extra service provided by
our real estate company, but in that year, the company was sold and
a new entity to handle just the exchange business was needed.
The name "Edmund &
Wheeler" comes from my middle name (Edmund) and my maternal
grandmother's maiden name (Wheeler). The name was chosen
with some care back in the 1980's to denote a professional firm
delivering consulting and business services to clients.

with and eventually fully immersed in Section 1031 Exchanges,
